CORPORACIÓN GTREES

GTREES is a non-profit corporation that brings together all key stakeholders in the national value chain of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE). Its main objective is to efficiently and technically coordinate the comprehensive management of WEEE at the end of their life cycle, promoting proper collection, treatment, recycling, and final disposal. The Corporation operates in full compliance with current regulations, specifically Ministerial Agreement MAE-2022-067, published in Official Register No. 117 on August 1, 2022. Through these actions, GTREES actively contributes to environmental protection, public health, and the strengthening of the circular economy in Ecuador.

What does Ministerial Agreement 067 establish?

Ministerial Agreement MAE-2022-067 regulates the management of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) in Ecuador through extended producer responsibility.

It establishes that manufacturers, importers, and distributors must implement systems for the collection, recycling, and proper final disposal of these wastes. Its objective is to minimize environmental impact and promote the circular economy. It also sets technical and administrative requirements to ensure responsible management. The regulation promotes sustainability and protects public health.

What is the role of the GTREES Corporation within the collective system?

The central role of GTREES Corporation is to coordinate, integrate, and strengthen all actors involved in the commercialization, collection, treatment, and final disposal chain of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) nationwide, promoting environmentally responsible management aligned with current regulations.

OUR ROLE

  • Raise public awareness about this management
  • Train generation points, strengthening the technical and environmental discourse of the model
  • Ensure compliance of members with environmental regulations
  • Represent value chain actors of EEE before the Ministry of Environment (MAE) and Ministry of Production, Foreign Trade, Investments and Fisheries (MPCEIP)
  • Strengthen management by providing information to the MAE
  • Connect actors through the traceability platform, adding value to each stage of the process.

HOW DOES GTREES OPERATIONAL MANAGEMENT MODEL WORK?

Within the framework of the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) principle, GTREES operates under a collective model for the comprehensive management of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), structuring and efficiently coordinating all key stakeholders in the value chain. This model includes the active and coordinated participation of:

Producers and importers responsible for introducing electrical and electronic equipment into the national market.

Distributors and points of sale, serving as strategic intermediaries in the commercial and collection phases.

End users, who play a fundamental role in the responsible return of products at the end of their life cycle.

Authorized transport operators, responsible for the safe and compliant transfer of WEEE.

Authorized recovery operators, in charge of the treatment, recovery, and final disposal of the waste.
